Recapping RumbleJan

Hold up - What is RumbleJan?

If you’re asking that, you clearly aren’t listening to The Tippy Cast! So rectify that and come back here! But essentially, each month, I’m focussing on a different game to paint stuff for. In January, I wanted to finish off a bunch of models I had started painting in December during the Podcast break, while Daz and I were swamped with work. I work as a butcher, so that Christmas run up is quite hectic.

In this post, I’ll be including some of those December models, as I’ve not properly shown them off yet. So to start, I’d like to introduce a team from a new Casino, The Mountain, Slumdog Scrappers, and a Superstar, Slugger.

The Slumdog Scrappers were part of a TTCombat Kickstarter, and as of writing, have not come to retail. They consist of a team of 6, unusual for a box team, and have Scrapper as a Superstar. Within the fantasy realms, Gnolls are born of Hyenas, so as a way to maintain that lore, I painted the models as Hyenas. I painted them from different breeds of Hyena, including Spotted Hyenas, Brown Hyenas, Aardwolf and Striped Hyenas. This allowed me to give some colour and pattern variation in the team, but still maintain the Red and Blue team colours they have on their card art. I also added to the drool featured on the Berserker, using UV resin and ripple effect medium, which helped give the drool a rabid bubble look. As Slugger is a Superstar berserker, I added more drool to him, too, and as the Gnoll Ogre is written as being low IQ, I added some drool to him, too. Sometimes he just forgets to swallow his spit!

Part of the Kickstarter included a Gnoll Lord figure, but as I don’t play any fantasy army games, I figured they would make a great superfan for teams from The Mountain, so I freehanded the Casino’s symbol onto the banner and painted them in the colours of Slumdog Scrappers. Don’t ask how he got that weapon through security, though.

Along with the Gnoll, I also painted another cheerleader. I painted her in blue and yellow, a nod to how I painted the cheerleader in Don’t Look Back, using the Vault-Tec colours from Fallout. I also reference the town of Tippy Dale (my setting for DLB) in the jacket worn by Michelle J Wolf, as she is also in the Blue and Yellow jacket that I painted Max from DLB in.

Another couple crowd models I painted were the Shokan fan who was part of the Half Tilt Kickstarter, and the fan with a banner, again from Half Tilt. I have a few of this banner waving fan, and while I was painting this batch of models, I wanted her to be a fan of a Casino, so opted for the underappreciated Feral Den. Someone has to be a fan of Rottergut and all of those rats!

Another team I painted was The Executive Branch, a new team for The Forest Soul. The Great Fairy is a healing wrestler who can keep your team in the fight for longer, the Dice Gobbler is a squirrel who can keep dice rolls to use at a later date, and the Raccoon Thief can steal counters from people and use them as Live Ammunition for throw attacks! The Thorn Dryad is good at both Grapples and Brawls, but has the added bonus of dealing Bleeding effects through her Reversals! The Amazonian Druid also allows some healing to take place through her Crowd Pleaser, but also remove -MP counters and turn that number into free movement, and use her magic to turn wrestlers into Heels for that round. I used colour shifting paints on the Great Fairy wings so they shift between blue and purple depending on how you look at her.

Korut is a Superstar for The Forest Soul. She is able to inflict Bleeding damage to her opponents using her Sharpened Claws Passive Ability, and with her Turnbuckle Ability. But where she really stands out is lining her up to get her Crowd Pleaser off, which allows her to make a 0AP Pin action if she performs a Turnbuckle Attack or Ability which KOs an opponent, until the end of her NEXT activation. She’s an absolute beast in those corners, so watch out! And like all Velociraptors, she’s a clever girl!

WOOO!

The Naturalist is another new Superstar for The Forest Soul, and he’s stylin’ and profilin’ At the start AND end of each round, The Naturalist regains 1 Stamina, but what would you expect from the dirtiest player in the game?

House of Talent brings some more muscle to Gomorrah teams, with the Enforcer, who I painted to reference Shayna Baszler, and a freehanded World Eaters symbol on her kneepad, again referencing Shayna once mentioning she’d love to have the chance to play Lotara Sarrin, the ship mistress of World Eaters. I like to think she’d love these references.

Mister Sock joins the ranks of Gomorrah, and bring with him his woolskin, making him immune to Bleeding effects! An absolute monster in brawling, with his 1G+2, and a crowd pleaser that means he only takes 1 Damage from any single attack (including Beatdowns) until the end of the round. He is a heel and his Grapple Ability, Mister Man is a Dirty action, so you’d best be on your toes!

Grunt Orcel is the smartest Orc around, but that doesn’t mean he can’t hit hard! With a Devastating Turnbuckle Ability, a Shove 5 Rope Ability and Da Boss Active Ability, Grunt Orcel can deal a whole lot of damage, as you’d expect from a Greenskin. Then with his Crowd Pleaser popping off, giving him 2 -MP tokens in exchange for +1 added to his ATT, DEF and GRP scores, you know he’s a must have in your Rolling Bones teams!

The Lady Luck joins Pieces Of D8. A Figurehead of a ship (who is perfect for adding to Carnevale ships, btw), this shining gold beauty grants your team free Endorsement Rerolls when your team Pins or throws an enemy out of the ring! With her 1AP Crowd Pleaser, it allows her Brawl attacks to gain Shove 2 until the end of her next activation, allowing you to make some room between you and your enemies. Remember, you only get those Rerolls added if she’s still in play!

Randy is the GOAT of The Feral Den, quite literally. One of the rare Faces of the Casino, Randy brings with him the love and adoration of the fans, along with Endorsement ReRolls, if there are any friendly or enemy wrestlers with Crowd Pleaser tokens in base contact with him, when he gets his own. And being The GOAT, if you try to pin him, it is classed as a DIRTY move, even if he has a Knockdown counter, which usually deactivates Passive Abilities. I loved painting this model, and it gave me a chance to paint a different shade of gold to I used on Lady Luck. And those golden eyes look great, if I do say so myself!

Wrathmonger is another Feral Den Superstar with the HEEL attribute. He has the Frenzied Passive Ability, making him quite chaotic for when he activates, along with Incite A Riot where he can inflict 2 Damage to a friendly wrestler in base contact, but give them an extra 2C for their next Brawl or Grapple Attack. His Grapple Ability, Hell Hold has the LIFTED Keyword, and his Turnbuckle Ability Helldiver has FURY, making him a very dangerous opponent. His Crowd Pleaser is an excellent way to deal damage to multiple enemies, too. If you’re in base contact with him, friendly or enemy, you take 1 Damage. Although that may not seem like much, it’s unblockable damage!

What is next?

Well, now that RumbleJan has come to a close, it’s time to turn my head towards Fallout Februrary! I’ve already begun painting some Vault Dwellers to ease my way into it, and I cannot wait to get more of this collection painted! Stay tuned for what’s coming!
